Rendering Realism: From Eye to Hand to Screen
This hand rendering replicates a magazine image to study how light, shadow, and color bring depth and realism to interior scenes. The process includes sketching the form, mixing custom colors to match materials, and applying shadow and light to simulate depth and realism. By analyzing and replicating how light interacts with surfaces, this technique strengthens the ability to translate real-world textures and tones into digital 3D renderings, bridging traditional methods with modern tools for more lifelike results.
This exercise refines the eye for proportion, detail, and atmosphere, skills essential for producing realistic visualizations both by hand and in digital rendering.
Visual Replication & Material Exploration
Preparing a Client’s 3D render demonstrates the ability to replicate furniture or architectural features from reference images using a computer program like SketchUp.
By accurately modeling the fireplace and testing different materials and finishes, this process helps future clients visualize design options realistically. It also serves as a clear communication tool for fabricators, ensuring designs can be translated from concept to construction with greater precision.
Mood Board & Design Statement
Preparing a Client’s Mood Board & Design Statement for two uniquely different clients, Mr. Humphrey & Cindy & Rita Davidson
Each client shared the exact same floor plan and 1500 sq footage within the same high-rise building, but required two completely different designs. This project demonstrates the power of personal style, function, and need.
Mr. Humphrey is a single bachelor who has just recently been promoted and aspires to flourish in his new career and social life in timeless fashion.
Meanwhile, newly expecting mothers, Cindy & Rita Davidson, are transitioning from post-grad life and want to create a more sophisticated home for their next chapter. Their focus is on the functionality of a hybrid work model, all while making their home feel like an oasis to escape into at the end of the day.
Design Persona: The Refined Maverick
Recently promoted and stepping into a new level of success, Humphrey seeks a home that reflects his ambition while offering a retreat from his demanding schedule. He values quiet luxury, timeless masculinity, and effortless sophistication.
A bachelor with a daring spirit, he enjoys socializing and has an eye for vintage, high-quality pieces. Rich leather, warm woods, and bold, moody tones define his style, blending mid-century modern design with statement-making details, a reflection of his confidence, taste, and evolving lifestyle.
Design Persona: Balancing Modern Women
Hardworking career women celebrate the transition to becoming new mothers, all while desiring an elevated sophistication for their bedroom suite and bath.
Soft, inspired Sierra colors and warm wood tones create a calm and earth-toned atmosphere, reminding them of their travels to exotic places, all while allowing this new cocoon of durable style as they embark on the new adventure of motherhood together.
