This project involved transforming a small, poorly executed powder room in a 1920s home. Originally, the home had only one bathroom upstairs, and over the years, owners had made hasty renovations to accommodate their needs. A closet was quickly converted into a bathroom, with a pull-down light fixture left in place as a remnant of its former use.

Our goal was to restore character to this space. By introducing vintage Alicante Rosso stone, we brought back the timeless elegance lost through years of piecemeal renovations. The stone became the focal point of the design, providing the room with depth and richness while honoring the home’s history.

Summery Video of Project: Room for Alicante

This powder room was once an afterthought,  a closet, hastily converted into a bathroom. It had a string-pull light, a doll-sized sink, and proportions so tight you could sit on the toilet and wash your hands at the same time.

Originally excluded from the renovation, the space became impossible to ignore. With just under a foot gained in width and a shorter toilet sourced, we opened it up just enough tp give the appropriate size. A custom-bound counter and a compact bar sink let us stretch the room to its limit without tipping into discomfort.

To bring back the soul of the home, we reintroduced classic molding inspired by the original 1920s living room. And at the heart of the space, Alicante Rosso marble, a vintage stone with timeless warmth, carries the weight of memory and elevates everything around it. Its deep red veining draws the eye, compensating for the small footprint with richness and presence.

This is Room for Alicante: a once-forgotten corner, transformed into a moment of architectural poetry.
